The Season 4 Reloaded update is live in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, bringing a crossover with The Boys, the final Raid episode, another multiplayer map, and more. This update also includes the MX Guardian shotgun as the final weapon of the season. Here we’ll guide you through all the ways to unlock this new shotty.
How to unlock the MX Guardian shotgun
The MX Guardian is a fully automatic 12-gauge shotgun that can be customized to be a close-range monster. This new weapon can either be unlocked for free by completing in-game challenges or purchased as part of a cosmetic bundle.
Battle pass sector challenges
Unlike past seasons with weapons being unlocked with one in-game challenge in multiplayer or battle royale, the MX Guardian is locked behind a series of four challenges found in a new section of the battle pass. This is still a completely free way to unlock the gun, so you don’t need to purchase the battle pass to earn it. You also get a small reward with each challenge you complete.
- Get 10 ADS operator kills with shotguns: Dependable Emblem
- Get 10 hipfire operator kills with shotguns: Gunfire Calling Card
- Get 10 headshot operator kills with shotguns: Fanning Hutch Loading Screen
- Get 10 one-shot operator kills with shotguns: 1 Hour Double Weapon XP Token
Completing all four of these challenges will unlock the MX Guardian as your final reward. However, it is important to remember that the kills must be actual human opponents. The AI enemies in Invasion and DMZ do not count toward the challenges.
DMZ unlock challenge
Challenge: Extract the weapon from DMZ.
The MX Guardian shotgun can also be unlocked through a successful DMZ extraction. If a friend has this new weapon already, just have them set the MX Guardian as their insured weapon and invite them to play with you. They can drop the gun for you to pick up at the start of the match, and then you just need to successfully exfil with the weapon. You might even get lucky and loot an enemy player who has this weapon equipped. This DMZ unlock method works for any weapon in the game.
Store bundle
You can bypass the challenges completely and purchase the gun outright in the shop. A store bundle is not currently available for the MX Guardian, but it should arrive in the shop sometime during Season 4 Reloaded.
